Top Ten Most Influential Multiplayer Games
One of the most integral parts of the video game industry in its journey to become a viable entertainment form has been its ability to bring more than one person into the experience. Here’s a list that I’ve come up with to be some of the best, brightest, and most influential multiplayer games to hit the medium. You’ll notice that it’s completely devoid of MMO’s, which was deliberate (MMO’s have been important to the social aspect of gaming over their existence, but since they depend on the nature of multiplayer gameplay, then they’d pretty much deserve their own list on the matter). So, without further delay, here’s the list:

Quake

Whereas Doom created the deathmatch, many FPS multiplayer standards were founded with Quake, with hugely successful games like Team Fortress beginning their existence here.

Street Fighter II
Of all the fighting games out there, none carried as much influence on the genre and its two-player roots as Street Fighter 2. The game still is a permanent fixture in arcades and pizza parlors across the world, having set the bar awfully high for any aspiring fighter dreaming of taking it down.

Counter-Strike: Condition Zero
Even a good decade after the game debuted as a mod for Half-Life, it’s near impossible to walk through a college campus and not find a Counter-Strike LAN game in progress.

What are your favorite multiplayer games?
